An Ongoing Dialogue
The noble fifth century Greek philosopher dedicated his life to careful reasoning. Careful reasoning requires focused attention. The flame in a lantern is a great metaphor for attention; for it is where we direct our flame that we illuminate, discover, and learn.
While we will discuss attention deficit directly, it too is a metaphor for our times. We are all distracted by an over abundance of information or we hyperfocus or specialize in a field to the exclusion of all else. With careful examination, we can enrich our lives through discovery of interconnectedness and the ability to synthesize available information.
That is the intent of this ongoing dialogue. This is the examined life worth living
The Author
Cogito, ergo sum; I think, therefore I am. We owe Mr. Descartes gratitude for his observations and the introduction of dualism for it makes us reflect. But thinking also shapes our world. It shapes our politics, our treatment of others, science and religions. How we think, what thought is, and how it affects our world are crucial elements that need our attention. As a former educator, I am intensely concerned with thought, its fundamental structure, its use, and limitations.
Seeing the educational limitations for children and adults with attention problems, I developed technology that shapes attention (Play Attention).
Play Attention is a synthesis of information from cognitive educational psychology, NASA technology, and operant conditioning. I currently oversee Unique Logic + Technology, Inc., the company that produces Play Attention.
